Jason Ornstein is a Vice President in Houlihan Capital’s Valuation and Financial Advisory practice and has more than fifteen years of professional experience executing and managing a diverse range of business valuation, intellectual property (“IP”) appraisal, and litigation support engagements. While with the firm, Mr. Ornstein has performed numerous business enterprise, equity, derivatives, and IP valuations, especially for financial reporting and tax compliance. He values companies in a broad range of industries from start-ups to multi-national corporations. Mr. Ornstein has also performed fairness, solvency, and capital adequacy opinions in connection with both privately-held and public company M&A transactions.
In his prior experience, Mr. Ornstein was a Senior Associate in the Business Valuation group of BDO USA, LLP for nearly four years, where he focused on business enterprise and IP valuations for financial reporting (fair value), such as purchase price allocations and goodwill / intangible asset impairment testing, as well as tax (fair market value) purposes. Previously, Mr. Ornstein began his professional valuation career in the IP Valuation and Consulting practice of Charles River Associates (formerly CRA International; and InteCap, Inc.), where he often worked within the highly scrutinized arenas of transaction due diligence and litigated disputes. Including his work at prior firms, Mr. Ornstein has developed an extensive background in business and IP valuation (particularly patents and trademarks) for the purposes of licensing or sale.
Mr. Ornstein holds Bachelor degrees in Finance and Political Science, both with high honors, from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Mr. Ornstein is an Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) candidate in Business Valuation, as designated by the American Society of Appraisers. Mr. Ornstein is also an active member of the Business Valuation Association of Chicago.
